The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) voiced its strong opposition to the recent release of the rule on “Securing the Information and Communications Technology and Services Supply Chain: Connected Vehicles” by the U.S. government on the so-called grounds of national security.

The rule prohibits the trading of intelligent Internet-connected vehicles, and the hardware and software of the relevant systems designed, developed, manufactured or supplied by mainland personnel.

The CAAM vigorously opposed the U.S. government's wrongful act of destroying the ecosystem of the global smart Internet-connected vehicle industry. It believed that the U.S. unilaterally adopting administrative restrictive measures and forcibly severing economic and trade exchanges and industrial cooperation with specific countries not only destroys the fair competition in the global automobile market, but also causes far-reaching adverse impacts on the global industrial chain, which ultimately jeopardizes the interests of the U.S. industry and consumers.

The Association called on the U.S. government to objectively examine the economic and trade issues, avoid politicization and pan-securitization, and repeal the relevant prohibitions against mainland China in the rules. It also opined that the global automobile industry should deepen its cooperation and work together to promote the healthy and sustainable development of the smart Internet-connected vehicle industry.
